What the Marketplace installs

The Haven app, not the browser extension.

The Marketplace listing adds Haven to your Google apps menu. Opening it takes you to your Haven account at account.starthaven.com, where you choose how you're using Haven: for yourself, your family or your organization. Organizations then invite their people and set their policy there.

Haven's protection runs in the Haven browser extension. The Google Workspace Marketplace can't install browser extensions, so that's a separate step, covered below.

Installing from the Marketplace does

  • Add Haven to the Google apps menu for you, or for the people you install it for
  • Let Haven see your name, email address and profile picture, so you can sign in with your Google account
  • Let a force-installed Haven extension sign your people in automatically, without an extra approval step

Installing from the Marketplace does not

  • Install the Haven browser extension on anyone's computer
  • Give Haven access to your directory, mail, files or calendars
  • Start a paid plan. Haven is free for individual use, and you choose a plan in your Haven account

Install for your organization

For a Google Workspace super admin.

  1. Sign in to the Google Workspace Marketplace with your super admin account, and search for Haven.

Check that the developer is MirrorTab Corp before you go on.

  2. Click Admin install, then Continue.

  3. Choose who gets Haven:

    Everyone at your organization

or Certain groups or organizational units, if you're starting with a pilot. Choose the same people you'll push the extension to in Add the Haven extension. That's what lets automatic sign in work for them.

  4. Review the permissions Haven asks for (your name, email address and profile picture), accept the terms, and click Finish.

  5. Open Haven from the Google apps menu, or from the Marketplace's Done screen. Sign in with your Google account, choose Organization, and follow the setup steps.

It can take a few minutes

Google applies an admin install within minutes, but occasionally it takes longer to reach everyone. If Haven isn't in someone's apps menu straight away, give it a little time before you troubleshoot.

Install for yourself

Any Google account, including a personal Gmail account.

  1. Find Haven on the Google Workspace Marketplace and click Install.

  2. Choose your Google account, review the permissions, and click Allow.

  3. Open Haven and choose Just me or My family. Haven is free for individual use.

  4. Add the Haven extension from the Chrome Web Store, and sign in to it with the same Google account.

If your work account belongs to a Google Workspace organization, your admin may have turned off installing Marketplace apps for yourself. Ask them to install Haven for the organization instead.

Add the Haven extension

This is where the protection runs.

For an organization, push the extension from the Google Admin console so that everyone gets it and nobody can remove it. The steps are in Deploy Haven with Google Workspace. To start with a pilot group, see Deploy Haven to one OU or Group.

Automatic sign in

No App access control step needed.

When you install Haven for your organization from the Marketplace, and the extension is pushed to the same people, they're signed in to Haven automatically when Chrome starts. You don't need to mark Haven as Trusted in the Admin console's App access control. The Marketplace install already approves Haven's sign in for the people you chose, even if your organization blocks unapproved third party apps.

Automatic sign in also needs:

  • The person's Chrome profile is signed in to their Google Workspace account. A personal profile, or a profile that isn't signed in, can't be signed in automatically. Haven asks that person to sign in by hand instead.
  • Your Haven organization has a verified domain with automatic enrollment on. You'll find both in your Haven account.

If you set up Haven before it was on the Marketplace and marked it Trusted in App access control, you can leave that setting as it is. It does no harm.

Connect your directory

Optional, and asked for separately.

Haven can follow the groups you already manage in Google Workspace, so that policy set for a Haven group applies to the people in the matching Google group. The Marketplace install doesn't grant this. When you choose Google Workspace in your Haven account and click Connect, Google shows a separate approval screen asking for read-only access to your groups and their members.

Haven only reads group membership. It never reads mail, files or calendars, and it never changes anything in your directory. You need to be a Workspace admin, or to hold the read-only Groups Reader admin role, to connect.

Uninstall

Removing the app doesn't remove the extension.

  1. In the Google Admin console, go to:

Apps › Google Workspace Marketplace apps › Apps list
  2. Select Haven and click Uninstall app.

If you installed Haven for yourself, remove it from your Google account's third party connections instead.

Uninstalling removes Haven from the apps menu and withdraws the approvals the install gave. It doesn't remove the browser extension, which you manage in the Admin console as before. It also doesn't close your Haven account or organization. To do that, contact us.

Troubleshooting

The things most likely to come up after an install.

I installed Haven, but nobody has the extension

That's expected. The Marketplace installs the Haven app, not the browser extension. Push the extension from the Google Admin console by following Deploy Haven with Google Workspace.

People are still asked to approve Haven when they sign in

The admin install only covers the people you chose when you installed it. Check that the person is in one of the organizational units or groups you selected, or change the install to cover everyone. Someone who installed Haven for themselves approves it once, the first time.

The extension is installed, but people are not signed in automatically

Check, in order: that the extension was pushed to the same people the Marketplace install covers; that the affected Chrome profile is signed in to a Workspace account; and that your Haven organization has a verified domain with automatic enrollment on. Until all three hold, those people sign in by hand. Haven never blocks them.

Connecting Google Workspace asks me to approve Haven again

That's expected. Reading your groups is a separate permission that Haven asks for only when you connect your directory, not when you install. Approve it with a Workspace admin account, or an account with the Groups Reader admin role.
