Why did Haven turn off one of my extensions?
Short answer
On Protected sites such as your bank, Haven pauses your other extensions so none of them can read the page. By default they come back when you switch to another tab; a setting keeps them paused while any Protected tab is open. In an organization, your admin may also have disallowed that extension.
Pausing on Protected sites
While a Protected site is the tab you're looking at, Haven keeps your other browser extensions paused so nothing can read what you type into a login form, and they come back when you switch away. In Haven's settings, under "Pause other extensions on Protected sites", that is the default, "Only the tab I'm looking at" (Recommended); "While any Protected tab is open" keeps them paused until every Protected tab is closed.
The 'Extensions paused' badge means Haven is holding your other extensions paused because a Protected site is open, and you are on a tab that isn't itself a Protected site.
What it leaves alone
Haven's /facts page names these password managers as staying active: 1Password, Bitwarden, LastPass, Dashlane, Keeper, NordPass, RoboForm, KeePassXC and Enpass.
Haven can't switch off an extension that your IT administrator installed through browser policy. When such an extension keeps running on a protected site, Haven does not show that page as protected.
Where it happens
Every site in Haven's curated catalog, grouped into categories, is Verified. Sites in five categories are also Protected by default, so Haven pauses your other extensions there: Banking & Wealth, Taxes, Government, State Portals and Healthcare.
If your organization manages Haven
Password managers are allowed to keep running on Protected sites by default. Once an organization adds its first allowed extension, its own allow list takes over: every extension not on it, password managers included, is paused on Protected sites.
If your organization doesn't allow an extension and Haven switches it off, Haven tells you on the page that your organization doesn't allow it and to contact your IT administrator, and lets you ask your administrator for an exception.
Can't Chrome do this?
Partly. Chrome lets you limit each extension to certain sites, or to run only when clicked, and incognito windows run without extensions by default. Those are manual and one extension at a time.
How Haven handles this
- While a Protected site is the tab you're looking at, Haven keeps your other browser extensions paused so nothing can read what you type into a login form, and they come back when you switch away. In Haven's settings, under "Pause other extensions on Protected sites", that is the default, "Only the tab I'm looking at" (Recommended); "While any Protected tab is open" keeps them paused until every Protected tab is closed. Paused extensions include ad blockers, shopping and coupon tools, writing assistants and AI sidebars. Your password manager keeps working. Pausing is on by default; you can turn it off in Haven's settings, and Haven's other protections keep running. It needs you signed in to the extension and is not limited to paid plans.Verified by engineering October 29, 2026
- The 'Extensions paused' badge means Haven is holding your other extensions paused because a Protected site is open, and you are on a tab that isn't itself a Protected site. The badge goes away once Haven resumes your extensions.Verified by engineering October 29, 2026
